Getting Things Moving!

About 8 months ago the FCP play selection committee decided to produce Shrek: The Musical.  I was ecstatic as Shrek is one of my favorite musicals.  The music is exceptional and the story mirrors the Oscar-winning movie pretty well.  If you don’t know the show check out the movie (it’s currently on Netflix.)

This is a difficult show to tackle as it has not only a large cast but a unique cast containing iconic fairytale characters, large ogres, and diminutive leaders.  This is a big challenge for the costume and makeup department.  It also takes place in several locations which cause a challenge for our set design as our stage is intimate and our backstage storage is limited.

Our director Chris Roe is working to put all of these things together to make this the best show FCP has ever done.  Starting with auditions that took place two weeks ago.  Those who wanted to be considered signed up for a time and presented Chris and Lisa Wukitsch, the music director, with a 16 bar excerpt from a song of their choice.  After 40 or so auditions Chris and Lisa had the arduous task of casting the show.

I have been cast as Shrek and I am so excited to play this role.  I am busy brushing up on my Scottish dialect, learning my songs, and memorizing lines.  We had our read through this week and I am not only excited, but am in awe after hearing this great cast speak the lines for the first time.

We will continue to keep working to make this a great show and we need an audience so make sure you get your tickets today at http://www.waubonseetickets.com.

See you soon! – Patrick
